New Initiatives to Strengthen Resilience and Competitiveness
The first initiatives under the “Impact Innovation Accelerationspott” are now being launched. This new initiative within Impact Innovation scales up ongoing efforts for resilient and secure societies through new ways of working and new partnerships.
The Acceleration Fund aims to build resilience in practice—strengthening Sweden both in the short term and over the long term. It gives Impact Innovation programmes greater opportunity to test new approaches and establish new collaborations, including with a broader range of actors from civil society.
– Resilient and secure societies are a prerequisite for sustainable system transformation. In an uncertain and complex world, we need to address short-term needs while staying committed to long-term goals. This funding gives programmes the space to develop solutions in new collaborations, strengthening knowledge and learning for future initiatives,” says Jenny Engström, Team Lead, Impact Innovation Accelerator.
Impact Innovation’s five programmes – Net Zero Industry, ShiftSweden, SustainGov, Swedish Metals and Minerals, and Water Wise Societies – are working together with industry, the public sector, academia and civil society to strengthen society’s overall capacity to drive the green transition, and to build a resilient and competitive Sweden.
Examples of funded initiatives:
Net Zero Industry: Resilience in industrial value chains
In a time of geopolitical uncertainty, this initiative develops a framework integrating resilience and sustainability in manufacturing. The results will support industrial competitiveness and form the basis for a digital self-assessment tool focused on resilience and critical raw materials.
SustainGov: The Food Crisis – a scenario exercise for crisis preparedness
A scenario-based simulation that helps municipalities, public agencies, businesses and civil society prepare for disruptions in food systems. The initiative highlights dependencies, roles and collaboration challenges, and results in a practical, adaptable training tool for future crisis preparedness.
Water Wise Societies: Industry’s role in EU water resilience
This initiative explores how the EU’s new Water Resilience Strategy can be implemented in practice, with a focus on industry. Through stakeholder dialogue and lessons from across Europe, it develops concrete proposals to accelerate the transition toward water resilience.
ShiftSweden: Electric vehicles as energy sources – resilience in local emergency hubs
A real-world test where electric vehicle batteries are used as energy sources to power local emergency hubs. Using bidirectional charging (V2G/V2L), vehicles are tested as mobile energy resources. The initiative explores how distributed energy systems can strengthen local resilience on Gotland, bringing together research, industry, the public sector and civil society.
