23 applications in the call to form programme offices within Impact innovation
Impact Innovation has received 23 applications to form program offices. By the end of February 2024, following a thorough assessment process, we will know which program ideas and missions that will be part of the Impact Innovation program. These programs will have the opportunity to build momentum for creating sustainable solutions to address the significant societal challenges of our time.
When the deadline of 2 pm on October 19, 2023, has passed it became apparent that 23 applications have been registered in the call for proposals to establish a program under Impact Innovation.
–Especially of late, we’ve been reminded that the world is changing rapidly, and that the challenges we encounter are global, complex and interconnected. Impact Innovation represents one solution to confront systemic challenges and gear up the transition. That’s why I feel expectant and a little impatient today, says Darja Isaksson, Director General of Vinnova.

The three funding authorities- The Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova invest a lot of time and resources in carrying out a solid assessment process.
– Impact Innovation is an innovative effort in terms of design, layout and working methods. The assessment process therefore needs to be able to handle more complex applications. We are now mobilizing a wide range of skills for the assessment process and will largely employ international evaluators, says Johan Kuylenstierna Director General of Formas.
At the end of February, the programmes that are granted support will be presented, and already in March they should be running. The Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Vinnova are currently working to make the start of the programs as smooth as possible. For example, the authorities have agreed on common terms for the program offices and their activities, which will facilitate exchange and learning between the programs.
– The future programs within Impact Innovation will strengthen our ability to deal with many of the major societal challenges. We need to more quickly reach major system-affecting changes that are beyond traditional boundaries in society, and my hope is that the programs will give us new tools and innovative solutions, says Robert Andrén Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency.
